You can always rely on Edinburgh for a good display of Heracleum mantegazzianum, giant hogweed.
In truth, I posted pictures of this patch in previous years so this is not a new area that has been overtaken. It's just along from Dobbies Garden Centre to the south of the A720 City Bypass.
I've also pointed out that seeds of giant hogweed don't spread easily. But, given time and with year on year populations in the same place, slowly but surely the seeds do spread and new plants appear in new areas.
These next pictures, then, are of plants along the side of the road towards Dobbies.
It's also spreading into the gardens of the houses next to the large patch. I hope the occupiers know what it is and how to avoid being harmed by it.
When they've been approached before, the response of Edinburgh City Council has been 'Nuffin' to do with me, guv'nor' and I suspect that attitude still prevails.
